United Nations Day: Statement by the Spokesperson
80 years ago the United Nations Charter entered into force reflecting a commitment to a world governed by international law and universally applicable rules, to ensure global peace and security, human rights and sustainable development.
The purposes and principles of the UN remain as valid as ever, but today some of its most central principles such as respect for territorial integrity and the sovereign equality of all its member states are under attack.
The EU will continue upholding and defending the UN Charter and work with partners for a stronger, effective multilateral system that protects and delivers better results for all.
