The EU’s cultural and linguistic richness comes to Cairo as European Day of Languages returns for a third edition

The third edition of the European Day of Languages will take place in Cairo in September, showcasing the remarkable diversity of languages and cultures found throughout the European Union.
The event, which is organised by the European Union, will open to the Egyptian public on 24 September 2026. It will bring together the EU Delegation to Egypt, 16 EU Member States, two partner countries and their national cultural institutes for a day devoted to language, culture, and exchange. Now in its third edition, the European Day of Languages in Egypt has grown steadily since it began: from 11 participating countries in 2024, to 16 in 2025, to 20 this year, a reflection of deepening cooperation between the European Union, EU Member States, European cultural institutes and their partners in Egypt.
The event invites Egyptians of all ages to experience the EU's linguistic and cultural diversity first-hand: from taking their first steps in a new language, to meeting representatives of participating countries, discovering different cultures, and enjoying live music and performances. The 2026 edition will feature over 50 introductory language lessons, 20 country and institutional booths, interactive activities, games and prize draws, alongside cultural and musical performances throughout the day.
The morning programme is dedicated to participating schools, while the event opens to the general public from 16:00 to 20:00.
The event brings together the EU Delegation to Egypt, the EU National Institutes for Culture, and: Belgium, Czechia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
Culture is a defining part of the EU’s identity. The Member States speak several languages and express themselves through a wide range of customs, artistic expressions, and creative endeavors. According to the Pact for the Mediterranean, the EU believes that culture is a potent means of protecting our common history, assisting artistic communities, promoting communication, and uniting people on both sides of the Mediterranean.
In Egypt, the European Union has supported the cultural and creative sectors for years, working alongside Egyptian and EU partners across the country. Through the European Egyptian Cultural Programme, EU support has reached more than 150 cultural projects across 19 Egyptian governorates since its inception. This work complements EU support for Egypt's cultural heritage, as well as film and music festivals and other cultural initiatives that bring European and Egyptian artists and audiences together.
Participation to the event is free, but prior registration is required. Registered visitors will receive a QR code by email, which must be presented at the entrance.
