Ambassador Hartzell meets green EU initiatives in Gori with CENN
The Ambassador met with local youth at and social enterprise “Leader” to discuss their current activities and further developments.
During the meeting with the Ambassador, young activists at Innovation Knowledge Hub presented social campaigns and talked about the green economic initiatives planned in Gori. The young people noted, that before the EU’s intervention this type of co-working space did not exist, while it has become a very popular spot. The Hub engages the young generation in Gori in entrepreneurial and educational activities offering trainings and courses for further entrepreneurial and social development.
Ambassador Hartzell also visited the Gori-based sewing Social Enterprise “Leader”. The company was one of the first in the region to develop a textile waste recycling strategy.Currently, it recycles two tons of textile per month, which otherwise would have gone to waste. The company’s director, Nino Goguadze, together with her employees gave a tour of the premises and highlighted the EU’s support under the SEED project and within the EU4Business programme. The continuous support of the European Union has helped her develop new directions for her business. The company also offers vocational training in dressmaking to locals from vulnerable groups.
At the end of the visit, Ambassador Hartzell summarised: “Business is a large part of our lives, it impacts where we work, where we shop and, in the end, how we live. That is why the European Union focuses on working together with local businesses to help improve their work, develop new ideas and create new jobs. The projects I visited today, together with CENN, are excellent examples of these endeavors, including to improve the labour market for people from vulnerable groups.”
