Indonesia and the European Union are working together to build more sustainable agriculture, protect biodiversity and create greener supply chains.
By supporting farmers, strengthening supply chains and fostering cooperation with the private sector, we help Indonesian farmers meet sustainability standards, maintain access to global markets and build a greener future for generations to come.
Sustainable commodities play a vital role in building a greener future and can support protecting forests and biodiversity.
Through the Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, the European Union and Germany partner with Indonesia to promote sustainable, deforestation-free production of natural rubber, coffee and cocoa.
Through five videos and 20 dynamic quotes, we give a voice to the people driving this transformation, highlighting their experiences. We also strengthen private sector collaboration and showcase how sustainable practices help maintain access to global markets while building resilient agricultural livelihoods.
Contributing to the objectives of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, SAFE connects environmental protection with sustainable value chains and long-term economic opportunities for Indonesian communities.
The project is co-funded by the European Union, Germany and the Netherlands and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS).
