Climate Diplomacy Week 2019:
EU, Indonesia join hands to promote youth actions on climate change
From 23 September to 6 October 2019, the European Union (EU) – together with its Member States – is organising the annual "Climate Diplomacy Week", a series of events to highlight climate action in the EU and across the globe.
In Indonesia, the EU Delegation and the Embassies of EU Member States mark Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 by joining hands with the Government of Indonesia, private sector, civil society organisations and many others to raise public awareness on issues related to climate change.
“Climate change is a direct and existential threat. It spares no country and requires a collective response. The world is witnessing multiple devastating impacts of climate change, yet global action to stem it remains insufficient,” stated Climate Change and Environment Counsellor of the EU Delegation to Indonesia Michael Bucki, who added: “Building on our own experience, we advocate that the green transition offers ample opportunities for sustainable growth and that it can and should go hand-in-hand with job creation, food security, and public health.”
This year's Climate Diplomacy Week theme is "Youth and Climate Actions" as more and more young people are leading the way on climate change, making their voices heard, and demanding governments, companies and all of us to take actions.
Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 will present a series of thematic events in Jakarta and beyond. In addition to several discussion forums, Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 will also feature a workshop, competitions and games, a cooking demo, a clean-up day and many more activities.
At the Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 launch on Monday 23 September at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Jakarta, the EU announced its collaboration with various youth organisations and young individuals working hard to tackle climate change by working in forest and ocean preservation, renewable energy, sustainable production and consumption, as well as smart urban planning.
