Erasmus Story: Aminah Faizah Kaharuddin
Meet Mina, short for Aminah Faizah Kaharuddin. She became the first Bruneian alumna with an EU Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (EMJMD) since she completed a programme in Water and Coastal Management (WACOMA) in 2021.
“Like all EMJMDs, the two-year programme I followed came with a full scholarship and a mobility plan. I studied at each of WACOMA’s three universities in Bologna (Italy), Cadiz (Spain) and the Algarve (Portugal). Each university had its own approach to teaching and assessments, which helped me become a more attentive and adaptable student. Coursework was complemented by site visits, hands-on experience with specialised instruments, laboratory activities, and software training. Like many EMJMDs, my programme also included the opportunity of an internship and thesis work at associated universities and non-academic partners,” said Mina.
“I experienced many defining moments in those two years. I learned from technical experts but also from the many inspiring people I met, including my classmates from diverse backgrounds. Our coordinators took extremely good care of us in terms of accommodation, travel, and insurance. This made the journey smooth sailing and allowed me to focus on pursuing my goal of becoming the best I can be!” added Mina.
Mina’s tips for Bruneian applicants? “Ace your academic grades and extra-curricular activities to make your application stand out,” she said.
