The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia, Vincent Piket, met with the Governor of the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Zulkieflimansyah, today (14/6) to discuss trade and investment opportunities between NTB and the EU. This meeting marks a two-day visit of the EU Delegation to NTB and is a continuation of trade and investment visits to several provinces in Indonesia.

“The European Union is committed to strengthening trade and investment ties with stakeholders in West Nusa Tenggara province. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone greatly contributes to the economy of the province and will add more value by implementing sustainable development principles, including renewable energy and ecotourism. There is a lot of room for growth in this area of trade and investment with the EU. Together with Governor Zulkieflimansyah, the EU aims to pave more economic partnerships with the province,” said EU Ambassador Vincent Piket.

NTB has vast potential in the trade and investment sector, particularly in green and sustainable economy aligned with the EU’s policies. To promote sustainable development in the province, the EU is funding the Echo Green project in NTB’s East Lombok Regency, which aims to improve sustainable agriculture practices and ensure women and young farmers are involved in land use and spatial planning. The EU is also implementing the ARISE+ programme worth €15 million to provide technical support to the government and companies to increase export capacity and comply with international trade standards.

Governor Zulkieflimansyah welcomes this meeting and shares the readiness of business actors in NTB and its business-ready policies and business climate that support investment and trade cooperation. “NTB Province continues its commitment to strengthening its relationship with various partners. This time, NTB business actors are presented with an opportunity to collaborate with the EU Member States, particularly in the trade and investment sectors. We wish to partner with the EU and Member States in education, economy and trade," said the Governor.

Following the meeting with the Governor of NTB, Ambassador Piket will hold a meeting with business actors coordinated under the NTB Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).
