The Delegation of the European Union (EU) and the EU Member States in Indonesia have jointly organised the first 'Alun-Alun Eropa' Festival as part of the celebration of ‘Europe Day’, the EU’s ‘national day’.

‘Alun Alun Eropa’ took place on Saturday, 6 May 2023 at Plaza Sudirman and Softball Park, Kompleks Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) in Senayan, Jakarta, from 07:00 am until 21:30. Visitors were able to enjoy, free-of-charge, European cultural performances, authentic European cuisine and interactive family activities.

"Europe has a rich and diverse culture, amazing travel destinations, innovative technologies and ideas. We are excited to present them at the Alun-Alun Eropa Festival to celebrate Europe Day and the friendship between the peoples of the EU and of Indonesia," said H.E. Vincent Piket, the EU Ambassador to Indonesia. "With this festival we want to encourage people-to-people friendship between Europe and Indonesia," added Ambassador Piket.

Alun-Alun Eropa showcased the vibrant atmosphere of European markets, featuring booths from the EU and its Member States – including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Finland and Sweden – as well as with special guest Ukraine, and renowned European brands.

There were also a range of unique experiences, such as grooving to the beats of flamenco dance, trying the exciting game of Mölkky, as well as meet and greet the travel influencer Kristian Hansen. There were many things for everyone to enjoy at Alun-Alun Eropa. At the food and beverage section, visitors tasted a wide variety of authentic European cuisine. As for film and music lovers, special films were featured by ‘Europe on Screen’ and the famous Indonesian band ‘The SIGIT’ performed their hit songs.
