EU Local Statement on the recent adoption of the Ministerial Regulation on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Universities

The Delegation of the European Union issues the following statement together with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States in Indonesia

On this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the EU Delegation welcomes the recent adoption of Ministerial Regulation No. 30/2021 on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Universities, notably for its survivor-centred approach to sexual violence prevention and response on campuses across Indonesia. The EU Delegation supports the active role given to the higher education institutions, their staff and students in helping to ensure that campuses remain a safe space for all.

The EU Delegation views the Ministerial Regulation as an important step towards strengthening the overall legal framework for sexual violence prevention and response in Indonesia, and encourages the ongoing parliamentary deliberations on the Sexual Violence Bill to continue in the spirit of the Regulation’s survivor-centred approach.
