Europe on Screen 2022 features a film from Ukraine

“Reflection” – an emotional, timely war drama with a message of hope

This year, the Europe on Screen (EOS) film festival will feature a Ukranian film titled Reflection. Directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych, Reflection is a story about a Ukrainian surgeon who suffers from PTSD after being captured by the Russian military forces. After his release, he tries to fight his trauma and mends his relationship with his ex-wife and estranged daughter. Reflection was selected in the Official Competition of Venice International Film Festival 2021. The film will be shown in Ukrainian with English subtitles.

Representatives from the Embassy of Ukraine and the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Vincent Piket, will attend the Reflection film screening on 18 June 2022 at 16:00 at Erasmus Huis, Jakarta.

Ahead of the film screening, EU Ambassador Vincent Piket stated, "By presenting the Ukrainian film in the Europe on Screen film festival, we want to convey a message of solidarity, sympathy and support to the people of Ukraine in these extremely difficult times for them. The European countries stand by you."

Separately, Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Hamianin said, “Mr Vasyanovych is an accomplished filmmaker. Through Reflection, we hope that people have a bigger understanding of the conflict that is recently surrounding us. This movie is a reflection that represents all Ukranians who have endured this war, collectively or personally.”

As the longest-running international film festival in Indonesia, EOS is showcasing this year a package of 69 films from 25 European countries. In-person or offline screenings will be held from 16 to 26 June 2022 in six major cities in Indonesia (Jakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Medan, Surabaya and Yogyakarta) while a selection of films will be showcased via virtual or online screenings on festivalscope.com from 20 to 30 June 2022. All of the festival’s film screenings and fringe events are free of charge.
