Team Europe supports Indonesia’s Teaching Hospitals in the fight against COVID-19
Team Europe is supporting Indonesia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the project “Strengthen University Teaching Hospitals in the fight against COVID-19 and pandemic preparedness”.
The project will increase the response capacity of two University Teaching Hospitals, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) and University of Brawijaya (UNIBRAW), in the fight against COVID-19 and future epidemics.
KfW on behalf of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is providing loan funding (€67 million) to the Government of Indonesia for completion and upgrade of these two University Teaching Hospitals, which will be accompanied by a grant provided by the European Union (€10 million) to strengthen virus surveillance, increase test capacities for COVID-19, increase capacities for medical treatment of COVID-19 patients, as well as strengthen research capacities.
To mark Team Europe’s support, a signing ceremony was held today (2/6) at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Signatories were EU Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Piket and KfW Indonesia Country Director Angela Tormin; and witnessed by EU High Representative/ Vice President Josep Borrell, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and German Ambassador Dr Peter Schoof.
