The Spotlight Initiative is a global EU-UN partnership to eliminate violence against women and girls.  In Zimbabwe, it is implemented in partnership with the UN, government, civil society and private sector.

The aim of the Spotlight Initiative is to support women and girls to realise their full potential in a violence-free, gender responsive and inclusive Zimbabwe.  This is being done through a comprehensive approach with focus on achieving transformative change in the following 6 areas:

  1. Legislation and policies
  2. Institutional  strengthening
  3. Prevention of violence
  4. Delivery of quality essential services
  5. Quality and reliable data
  6. Supporting the women’s movement and relevant Civil Society Organisations.

The overall objective of the Spotlight Initiative is to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, and harmful practices through

  3. Addressing the socio-cultural, religious, economic and political root causes of SGBV and HPs as well as promoting the SRHR of the most vulnerable and marginalised women, men, boys and girls.
  4. Strengthening availability of, and access to quality coordinated, multi-sectoral services  for more timely, effective and acceptable SGBV and HP response
