Are you a university student interested in international relations?  Is a working experience part of your course?  Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Mexico?

We offer:

A traineeship of up to 6 months for students undertaking a compulsory traineeship as a part of their studies, within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Mexico, starting in April 2023.

Under the supervision and mentoring of a Trainee’s supervisor, this compulsory traineeship will provide a solid and meaningful learning content, notably by the prior identification of the specific skills to be acquired in relation with the studies of the candidates.

Main tasks:

  • Daily monitoring of the Mexican media;
  • Contributing to political reporting on issues relevant for EU-Mexico relations (incl. bilateral, regional, global developments);
  • Conducting research and analysis of specific topic as needed and preparing speaking points for conferences, seminars etc.;
  • Attending events and reporting on them
  • Supporting the organisation of visits or events in Mexico including public diplomacy activities;
  • Drafting notes about EU coordination meetings or other meetings, in particular related to human rights.

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Currently residing in Mexico and studying a relevant University degree, e.g. in international relations, political science or EU affairs;
  • Very good command of Spanish and English (oral and written);
  • Good knowledge of EU affairs, Mexican politics and regional affairs of relevance to Mexico.
  • Ability to conduct political analysis of developing events;
  • Capacity to work under pressure at times

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country).

All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the University.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the context of the COVID-19 in the host country as well as in the country of origin where applicable.
