The European Union (EU) is a political and economic partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

We offer

We are looking for a Political, Press and Information Assistant. The recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as “Political, Press and Information Assistant” – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, the successful candidate will assist the EU Delegation with political analysis, media analysis, contacts, and social media communication.

The recruited person will work in a multicultural working environment. The fixed Term Employment contract is of one year duration, starting with a 3 months probationary period. The length of the working week shall be 37.5 working hours. The Delegation premises are located at Charahi Sedarat, Shar e-Naw, Kabul Afghanistan.

The post falls under Group 2 of the Delegation’s salary scheme.  EU salaries in Afghanistan are highly competitive. The exact amount will be communicated upon finalising the recruitment. Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Diplomas: Either a post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or a secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post- secondary education;
  4. Minimum three (3) years of work experience in political analysis, media and/or communication;
  5. English level C1;
  6. Proficiency in both Persian and Pashto (in written and spoken);
  7. Good computer skills on MS Office tools.

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Knowledge about the European Union
  2. Knowledge of another European or Afghan language
  3. Experience of work in Diplomatic Mission, International Organisation or Public Institution;
  4. Experience of working in political analysis and communication, including:
  • having a very good understanding of the Afghan media landscape and media actors;
  • having a very good understanding of political developments in Afghanistan and a wide range of contacts to support the work of the EU Delegation;
  • having an interest in regional  political developments.
  1. Experience in social media communication, including drafting social media content and overseeing an online community of the EU Delegation's social media platforms, including:
  • drafting social media posts in English, Dari, Pashto;
  • contributing to small-scale social media campaigns;
  • knowledge of a graphic and audio-visual tool, such as Canva, would be an asset.

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
