Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in our work with the UN Organisations in Rome and the Holy See?

We offer:

A traineeship of 6 months within the UN & Holy See Section of the EU Delegation to Rome, Italy, starting on 2 September  2024.

EU Delegation Rome focusses in large part on the UN agencies based in Rome (FAO, WFP, IFAD) and the UN Committee on World Food Security, all focussing on food and nutrition, agriculture and rural development within their respective mandates. The UN section is responsible for the regular contacts with these organisations, participation in intergovernmental meetings and informal meetings, EU coordination with the EU Member States and relationship-building and collaboration with the wider membership of these organisations. The Delegation is also the link between the EU HQ in Brussels and the UN agencies in Rome. The small Holy See team is responsible for promoting EU interests in relation to the Holy See, maintains regular contacts with counterparts in the Holy See, and other Embassies accredited to the Holy See and is also the link between HQ and the Holy See.

Main tasks:

  • Preparing for, attending and reporting on meetings, briefings, symposia and conferences at FAO, WFP, IFAD and Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the Holy See and pontifical academies as well as EU-meetings.
  • Preparation of briefings & background notes
  • Drafting of reports of meetings, symposia and conferences

  • Support the EU Delegation in the organisation of meetings, events and negotiations in the UN context
We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Recent Master’s Degree in the field of political sciences, international relations, law, agricultural or development studies, with a demonstrated interest in the areas the Delegation works on.
