General Maio visits the Central African Republic (6 - 8 July 2022)

The European Union Training Mission in Central Africa Republic (EUTM CAR) hosted the Deputy Director and Chief of Staff of the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), Major General Maio at the Mission Force Commander’s, Brigadier General Jacky CABO end of tour ceremony that took place the 7 July 2022.

 

Major General Maio visited the Mission in the Central African Republic between 6 and 8 July 2022. During the visit, he met the CAR President, H.E. Prof TOUADERA and the Chief of Defense. He also met the EU Head of Delegation and EUAM Head of Mission, the French and US ambassadors, the MINUSCA Force Commander and the French MISLOG chief. General Maio supervised the work recently done by EUTM and discussed the current and future activities in support of CAR Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence with CAR authorities.

The EUTM CAR contributes to the reform of the defence sector within the framework of a wider Security Sector Reform (SSR), in close coordination with the EU Delegation and the EU civilian Advisory Mission (EUAM CAR), as well as other International Support Missions, especially the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

In his address to EUTM CAR’s personnel, Major General Maio pledged the MPCC’s full support and confidence in the EUTM’s commitment, in particular during the current challenging political, security and health environment.

Despite the challenging political and security situation, the EU’s and EUTM CAR’s work remain highly visible, credible and well appreciated by the CAR political and military authorities, as well as by the international partners for its contribution to the Defence Sector Reform and the capacity building of the Armed Forces of Central Africa Republic.
