Joint Statement by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and Chile’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren on the provisional application of the EU-Chile Advanced Framework Agreement

07.06.2025 EEAS Press Team

The provisional application of the EU-Chile Advanced Framework Agreement as of 1 June 2025 marks a major milestone in our partnership. It boosts cooperation on climate action, green energy, security, and digital innovation and delivers real benefits for citizens and businesses on both sides. The EU-Chile Advanced Framework Agreement is the first such agreement that the EU has negotiated in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is based on the shared commitment of the EU and Chile to human rights, democratic values and a rules-based international order.

The provisional application enables the EU and Chile to start benefiting immediately from the political and cooperation components of the Advanced Framework Agreement, while it undergoes full ratification by the EU and its Member States.

During this period, the EU and Chile will continue to deepen their trade and investment relations under the Interim Trade Agreement that entered into force on 1 February 2025, removing most of the remaining tariffs on goods, facilitating increased trade in services, and making it easier to do business.
