Launch of EEN to strengthen EU and Singapore trade and technology collaborations
Today the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) Business Collaboration Centre opened its doors in Singapore. Led by a consortium formed by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) and Intellectual Property Intermediary Singapore (IPI Singapore), the EEN Singapore Centre will provide SMEs with exclusive access to a network-partners-only database of 20,000 business project offerings by EU companies.
On occasion of the launch, Dr. Michael Pulch, Ambassador of the European Union to Singapore, said, "The EEN Singapore Centre will provide Singaporean SMEs with an important gateway into the EU and vice versa. I would like to congratulate the SMF/IE Singapore/IPI consortium on their successful bid and look forward to working with them on delivering success to local and European SMEs."
The EEN Singapore Centre is one of Enterprise Europe Network's partners located outside of Europe. In joining the EEN, Singapore will become part of a network spanning 600 partner organisations across 63 countries with more than 3,000 internationalisation experts and technology transfer practitioners ready to assist SMEs venturing abroad. EEN Singapore will play a pivotal role in promoting and facilitating business deals as well as technology, research and development partnerships.
To complement the work of EEN Singapore, later this year, the EU will also launch a specific business support programme to assist European SMEs looking to access Southeast Asia. Using Singapore as the hub, over the next five years EU Business Avenues in Southeast Asia will accompany up to 1,000 European SMEs on 20 targeted business trips to explore opportunities in the region. The first business trip under the programme – focusing on Environment and Water Technologies – will be an integral part of the Singapore International Water Week and the Clean Environment Summit this July.
"I am confident that these two initiatives will offer unparalleled opportunities for Singaporean and European companies to share knowledge and expertise, transfer technology and develop business cooperation. Ultimately, these programmes will help to address hurdles that SMEs face when venturing abroad and boost their already important contribution to the trade performance of our respective economies," concluded Ambassador Pulch.
