The European Union supports Sustainable Built Environment Conference SBE16
Cairo- The European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt together with the EU- funded project MED-ENEC is conducting a three-days-event – back-to-back with the Sustainable Built Environment (SBE16) Conference. This EU – MED-ENEC event offers an opportunity to share best practices, discuss cooperation across the region, and in short to insist on the importance to sustain a regional energy efficiency community as well as embark on the appreciation to the Egyptian Government and other Stakeholders hosting the EU – MED-ENEC project over the past seven years.
The EU-funded MED-ENEC project has provided technical support to Egypt and other countries in the South MENA region focusing on promoting energy efficiency. MED-ENEC supported national partners as they seek to improve policies and framework conditions that help increase the use of energy efficiency solutions and RE technologies.
In his speaking remarks, Diego Escalona Paturel Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Egypt said that "the need to increase our energy efficiency is not, or not only, a matter of political preferences or agenda; it is pure common sense: our traditional energy sources are expensive, pollutant, finite, and not always reliable. We are investing greatly in finding new energy sources and in switching to renewables. But the energy we won't consume is by definition the cheapest, most secure and most sustainable source we will ever find".
The EU – MED-ENEC is a major sponsor of the conference. Among others several Ministers of the host countries will to deliver keynote speeches. During the EU – MED-ENEC session the speakers will provide an overview about the support activities of the EU-MED-ENEC projects during last few years and pointing out possible next steps to be taken in order to ensure the sustainable continuity of respective actions – thus reducing the energy consumption increase in future and contributing to the word wide reduction of CO2 emissions. Egypt with a population of around 90 million people will play a major role in this concerted action. The event is held from 29 November to 1 December 2016 at The Nile Ritz Carlton, Cairo.
