EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis visits the Republic of Moldova 5-6 July

Vytenis Andriukaitis, the Member of the European Commission in charge of Health and Food Safety, will be on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova on 5-6 July.

During his visit a series of meetings will take place in Chisinau, Republic of  Moldova. The meetings will cover a range of issues, including cooperation between EU and the Republic of Moldova on health matters, antimicrobial resistance, tobacco control, vaccination, access to medicines, food waste and food safety, among others.

On Wednesday 5 July, Dr Andriukaitis will meet with Ms Ruxanda Glavan, Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova, to discuss antimicrobial resistance, tobacco control, cooperation on health issues and other topics. A meeting with representatives of the European Business Association will also take place on Wednesday.

The meeting with  Mr. Pavel Filip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, is also envisaged in the programme..

On Thursday 6 July Commissioner Andriukaitis will meet with Mr Iurie Ușurelu, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova and Director of the Food Safety Agency Gheorghe Gaber. The goal of these meetings is to discuss the Republic of Moldova's progress in the alignment of national legislation with the one of the EU as well as the state of play in the implementation of the Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary commitments according to the EU – Republic of Moldova Association Agreement.  

On Thursday the Commissioner will also meet s with members of the Parliamentary Agricultural and Food Industry as well as Social Protection, Health and Family Committees.

On Thursday Commissioner will also participate in a public event where he will hold an open discussion on today's biggest issues in public health and food safety.
