Yesterday’s attacks on the MINUSMA camps in Douentza and Timbuktu were another attempt to prevent peace and thwart the development of the country. The persons responsible for these attacks must be arrested and brought to justice.

The European Union extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the United Nations and the Malian government, and once again offers its full support for the MINUSMA’s efforts to restore peace to the country.

With the terrorist threat continuing to affect the Sahel, we are more determined than ever to work alongside the governments of Mali and the other countries in the region, including the G5 Sahel, to enable their people to live in peace and security.
