#GirlsCan: Celebrating the European Week of Action for Girls

This week the EU is celebrating the European Week of Action for Girls.
Today's society still holds a set of mostly unwritten rules that limit girls in their personal and professional choices. The EU believes that girls deserve protection systems and access to health services, commodities and information so that they can be safe from violence and make informed decisions about their lives. All girls should have a future free from violence, inequality, and gender-based discrimination.
This position is reflected in EU funded projects conducted in Georgia. with actions like supporting vocational and entrepreneurship training for girls from marginalized communities or measures to prevent early marriages.
It is the strong belief of the European Union that girls, who are empowered and given equal opportunities in all aspects of their lives, can act as a force for positive change – for themselves and their family, as well as for their community and country.
Background
The European Week of Action for Girls is an annual week-long event which aims to ensure that girls’ empowerment is promoted and their rights are protected and fulfilled in the EU’s external action, through adequate policies, funding and programs.
