You can find contact details of the resident EU Member States Embassies, Consulates, Honorary Consuls who can provide consular protection as well as existing arrangements between EU Member States for Consular Protection in Singapore in the document below.

Please note that the EU Delegation to Singapore cannot provide direct consular assistance.

As an EU citizen, you can take simple steps to make consular protection more effective, for example:

  • Following the travel advice issued by your country's Foreign Ministry.
  • When abroad registering with your Embassy or Consulate and/or through dedicated platforms, if applicable.
  • Other tips include keeping an electronic copy of your travel documents, subscribing to a travel insurance or saving crisis contact details.

Singapore connected to EUDCC

Good news for travellers. Singapore vaccine certificates now equivalent to the EUDCC

Singapore is the first Southeast Asian country connected to the EU Digital COVID Certificate #EUDCC

Proving your vaccination status when travelling between Singapore and EU is now easier.

On November 24th 2021, the European Commission adopted two new decisions certifying that COVID-19 certificates issued by Singapore and Togo are equivalent to the EUDCC. As a result, the two countries are now connected to the EU's system. The EU will accept their COVID certificates under the same conditions as the EU Digital COVID Certificate. This means that holders of certificates issued by these two countries will be able to use them under the same conditions as holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate. At the same time, the two countries agreed to accept the EU Digital COVID Certificate for travel from the EU to their countries. Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, welcomed the increasing number of countries joining the EU's effort and highlighted: “To this date, we have 51 countries and territories in five continents that are now connected to the EU Digital COVID Certificate system. I am delighted also that we have the first Southeast Asian country and the first sub-Saharan African country that will be interconnected to the Digital COVID Certificate. With the end of the year holidays approaching, I want to reaffirm to travellers the importance of this tool to underpin the confidence to travel inside and outside the EU.”

The two Commission decisions entered into force on 25th November 2021.

Visa

Singaporeans do not need a visa to enter the Schengen area for short-term visits

If you hold a Singaporean passport, you will not require a visa to enter the EU as long as your stay is no longer than 90 days within any 180 day period. If you are not a Singaporean passport holder you may need to obtain a "Schengen visa". Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions to obtain further information.

The information below is not applicable for visas to EU countries outside of the Schengen area. If you are entering Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania, please contact the respective embassies on visa entry requirements.

Competent Embassy or Consulate-General

The Embassy or Consulate-General of the country of the main destination is the authority that deals with visa applications. If the main destination cannot be determined, the application should be made to the embassy of the country in which the longest visit would take place. If the visits in different Schengen countries are of equal length, the first destination is the determining factor.

General information

The purpose of a visa requirement for citizens of certain countries is to control who can enter and visit the Schengen countries. These countries decide collectively to which nationalities the visa requirement is applied.

If you hold a residence card issued under EU regulations on free movement, you do not need a visa to enter EU Member States. This applies to both residence cards issued in accordance with Directive 2004/38/EC and residence cards issued before this directive took effect. This can be either a credit card size plastic card or a residence sticker in your passport.

A Schengen visa is not appropriate if you wish to remain in a Schengen country for longer than 3 months or take up employment or establish a business, trade or profession.

The issue of Schengen visas is discretionary and depends on the examination of each individual case, including the purpose of the visit and the intention to return.

If you already hold a valid Schengen visa (if you have not used up all the days on the visa) but it does not cover your intended stay entirely, you will need to apply for another visa to cover the remaining period of your expected stay.
