EUTM Mozambique, more than training alone

As part of the EU integrated approach, EUTM Mozambique continued training Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM) personnel. Next to that, they worked with other EU officials and like-minded partners to help Mozambique.

Amongst others, EUTM Mozambique engaged with UNICEF to address Child Protection in Emergency Situations. Together they hosted

“Red Hand Day” or “International Day against the use of Child Soldiers”.

This day, since 2002, is a call to action for political leaders and events are held around the world to draw attention to child soldiers: minors who participate in military organizations of all types. The aim of Red Hand Day is to call for action to curb this practice and support children affected by it.

Another special event was the inauguration of the ammunition depot building in Dongo Training Centre (TC). The Mission Force Commander, Major-General João Gonçalves, had the honour of delivering this facility, in the presence of the European Union Head of Mission, Member States Ambassadors and the Army Chief of Staff from the FADM, Brigadier-General Xavier António. The project successfully implements an Ammunition Depot capacity in the TC improving greatly the safety and security and, therefore providing effectiveness of the training and boosting the morale.

Also,  a Delegation from the EU Political & Security Committee and the Deputy Director and Chief of Staff (DD/COS) of the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), Major General Werner ALBL visited. In the EUTM-MOZ HQ a briefing was presented to the Delegation, about the mandate, mission, manning, successes, opportunities and challenges. The delegation was also briefed on the concept of the integrated approach and how it materializes in the fulfilment of the mission
