Europe and Mozambique in Action

In the warmth of a Mozambican morning, a group of soldiers rolled up their sleeves. Not for drills this time, but to donate blood. This simple act of giving life captured the spirit of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ). A mission built on partnership, trust, and shared humanity.

Learning Together, Growing Together

In November 2025, the Train-the-Trainers Programme reached a new milestone. European instructors and Mozambican soldiers worked side by side, navigating boats through riverine terrain, learning to adapt, and testing their limits. The goal was to build confidence and independence, ensuring Mozambique’s Quick Reaction Forces can train their own future leaders.

Civil-military cooperation, communication, and gender awareness also played a major role. Participants trained not only how to lead, but how to protect — how to ensure that every mission respects and uplifts communities, especially women and vulnerable groups. This, too, is part of Europe’s partnership: strength through empathy.

Technical Excellence: France and Mozambique Join Forces

In another corner of the mission, French experts from FAZSOI (the French Armed Forces in the Southern Indian Ocean Zone) joined Mozambican technicians in a specialised maintenance programme. Together, they strengthened the technical backbone of Mozambique’s Defence Armed Forces (FADM). Each repaired engine, each new skill mastered, symbolised a promise — Europe standing shoulder to shoulder with Mozambique.

Visits that Strengthen Ties

Throughout November, EUMAM MOZ welcomed several European representatives — from Sweden, Portugal, Spain, and the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR). These visits were traditional diplomatic moments, but next to that also signs of a growing network of cooperation. Discussions on policy, strategy, and shared security reinforced the idea that Europe’s safety and Africa’s stability are interconnected.

One Year of Partnership, One Future of Possibility

EUMAM MOZ has now completed its first full year of activity — a year captured in its newly released Year Book, showcasing progress, resilience, and the friendships formed along the way. From riverbanks to classrooms, from medical tents to diplomatic tables, the mission reflects Europe’s commitment to peace and partnership in action.
