Last weekend the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia travelled to Kutaisi for the second event in a series of regional Europe Days. After celebrations in Zugdidi, Kutaisians were now invited to learn about the history and diversity of the European Union, discover concrete examples of EU support to Georgia and participate in other fun and informative activities under the motto "Our Colourful Europe".

The event was officially opened by Nino Tvaltvadze, Deputy Mayor of Kutaisi, and Mikolaj Bekasiak, Communications Officer at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia.

Children participated in various games and learning activities, meanwhile young men and women were invited to a street basketball competition. 12 male teams and 4 female teams competed in central Kutaisi and achieved impressive results.

Background

Europe Day celebrates peace and unity between the today 28 different EU member countries.  It marks the anniversary of the "Schuman Declaration" made in Paris on May 9th, 1950, which set out a vision for a new form of political cooperation in Europe which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. This proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is today the European Union.

This season the European Union plans to hold three regional events in total. Watch for our event in Lagodekhi on 16 June.
