The Local Economic Development Programme (Programa de Desenvolvimento Economico Local – ProDEL) is being implemented as a partnership between the EU, the National Directorate for Rural Development (DNDR) within the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER) and the Local Authorities in Gaza, Inhambane and Sofala Provinces. It promotes complementarities and coordination amongst sectors and between central and local authorities, together with the overall policy dialogue on Local Economic Development for poverty alleviation.

ProDEL's overall objective is to contribute to poverty reduction through income generation and employment opportunities in the rural areas of Mozambique.

The purpose is to promote the economic development in the rural areas of Gaza, Inhambane and Sofala Provinces, by strengthening the productive base and the competitiveness of local micro, small and medium enterprises.

ProDEL aims at achieving results in 3 main areas:

Result 1 - Public services for promotion of Local Economic Development are improved.

Result 2 - Public investments for local economic facilities are promoted (District public economic infrastructures; address capacity building for the delivery of public services and goods that impact on the business environment).

Result 3 - Value chains that foster the participation of local MSMEs are promoted (directly linked to improving the business performance of local economic operators along selected value chains).
