Within the frameworks of the visit, Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger signed the Joint Declaration on the South Gas Corridor and made press statements jointly with the Energy Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Parviz Shahbazov.

Commissioner Oettinger welcomed the signature of the Joint Declaration of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor "as an important step for the further diversification of energy sources and routes in Europe. The partners should make best use of the new infrastructure and envisage to at least double its capacity as soon as possible."

In the margins of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Meeting, the Commissioner had bilateral meetings with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Minister of Energy Mr. Parviz Shahbazov, BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Regions Mr. Gary Jones, with the Energy Adviser to the President of Turkmenistan Yagshigeldy Kakayev, as well as Energy Minister of Turkey Fatih Dönmez.
