Statement by the Spokesperson on the Presidential pardon granted to Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo in Myanmar

We are pleased that Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, two Reuters journalists jailed under the Official Secrets Act of 1923, have today been granted a presidential pardon. They are now free and can be reunited with their families and resume their vital work.

The European Union will continue to stand up for media freedom and pluralism as essential pillars of democracy around the world, and will continue to work with the Myanmar authorities in support of democracy in the country.
