Indonesian and European musicians join their talent in the NusantEro Big Band at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival
Culture and contacts between people are integral parts of the strong partnership that links Indonesia and Europe.
Today, it is music that binds us together: for the first time, a European-Indonesian Jazz Big Band will perform at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia, Vincent Piket, stated: “Music unites people. The NusantEro Big Band brings together Indonesian and European musicians. They will revisit classics from their various regions and countries, embodying the motto that Indonesia and the European Union have in common: 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika' / 'United in Diversity'. I am very happy about the contribution that NusantEro will bring to the Java Jazz Festival”.
The NusantEro Big Band hosts 25 acclaimed Jazz artists from Indonesia, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, led by the Indonesian music director and outstanding jazz pianist and vocalist, Nita Aartsen.
NusantEro presents new arrangements of famous Indonesian and European songs from composers such as Charles Trenet, Christ Kayhatu, Eric Satie, Ernst Bader & Klaus Gunter Neumann, Gesang, Ismail Marzuki, Jens Winther, Johann Sebastian Bach, Krzysztof Komeda, Maladi, Nino Rota and Toots Thielemans, with a touch of traditional Java, Bali and Betawi tunes.
