European Climate Diplomacy Week

The European Union and its Member States will team up across Australia for European Climate Diplomacy Week to advocate for the strongest possible climate action in the wake of the successful Paris CoP21 agreement.
Fifteen Ambassadors, a High Commissioner, and Consul Generals from the EU Member States will participate in the 11 events taking place in five Australian cities as part of the climate diplomacy week that will involve Australian state representatives, business, academia, media and civil society.
The programme will starts in Melbourne on 12 September with two events, followed by events in Adelaide and Darwin (13/09). Canberra will be hosting three events (14/09) and Sydney will host the final three closing events (15/09).
The EU's Ambassador to Australia, Sem Fabrizi, said climate diplomacy week would demonstrate the EU's collective and sustained determination on climate action.
"After the success of the European Climate Day in 2015 ahead of the Paris Conference, the EU and its Member States have agreed to hold the first European Climate Diplomacy Week worldwide," he said. "The European Climate Diplomacy Week is a great opportunity to communicate our climate objectives and achievements.
"The EU is implementing its goal of cutting carbon emissions by at least 40 per cent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The EU remains committed to sharing our experiences and supporting other countries and local actors in implementing their targets."
The EU and its Member States representatives will underline the need for all countries to implement as rapidly as possible the Paris CoP21 agreement, which aimed to limit average global temperature increases to well below two degrees.
"European Climate Diplomacy Week is also a valuable opportunity to build relationships with key local actors from government, business and civil society," Ambassador Fabrizi said. "These actors have been recognised by the Paris Agreement as crucial players in addressing climate change."
European Climate Diplomacy Week takes place this year between Monday 12 September and Sunday 18 September 2016.
