Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea - Political, Press and Information Section

We offer:
A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea, starting on 1st October2025.
The Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to PNG follows political developments and events in the country and provides analytical reports to the EU's Headquarters, based in Brussels (Belgium). The team comprises of; the Head of section, Press and Information officer and an assistant to the division. The PPI section is also responsible for Press and Media contacts as well as for the organisation of media- and public diplomacy events and activities. In line with the one Delegation approach, PPI works closely with the Cooperation Section, who is responsible for the implementation of the EU’s development assistance portfolio and EU Global Gateway Strategy in PNG. Both sections work closely together in developing and implementing EU Global Gateway Campaigns aligned with the EU’s political engagement with PNG.
Main tasks:
- Prepare internal briefing notes about topics related to PNG political, social and economic landscape
- Assist with the conceptualisation and organisation of press and public diplomacy activities (both small- and larger scale events) which may include contributing to the drafting and editing of content for the Delegation (i.e. press releases, political statements/speeches, information, education and communication materials as well as supporting the engagement with local and international media etc.;)
- Contribute to the content production for the Delegation's website including the planning of content for specific occasions (international days, politically significant dates etc. 50th Jubilee anniversary);
- Contribute to the design and implementation of EU Global Gateway Communication Campaigns.
- Contribute to project specific communication activities in collaboration with implementing partners.
- Provide constructive feedback regarding EU in PNG visibility methods;
- Take part in relevant internal and external meetings as well as policy dialogues and assist with putting together briefs, reporting and forward planning documents;
- Any other work-related tasks as assigned by your Internship Supervisors.

Qualifications or special requirements:
- Taking into account the local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in Papua New Guinea will only be considered.
- Applicants shall have graduated from a university or equivalent higher-education establishment with at least a Bachelor's degree in Journalism & Public Relations, International Relations /Politics, or another academic qualification that could be considered relevant to this traineeship.
- Eligible candidates must have a BA degree in one of the study areas mentioned above and maximum of 1-year work experience.
- The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- A sickness and accident insurance must be arranged by the selected candidates.
- Selected candidates will have to provide copies of their degree certificate and transcript, an extract from the judicial record (Police Clearance) and a medical certificate stating that she/he is fit for work and have no infectious diseases, as well as a copy of the passport or an ID card.
- Selected trainees must arrange their own accommodation within reasonable distance to the EU Delegation office.
- Selected candidates may be required to take vaccination in the event of a pandemic as appropriate measures may apply in the EU Delegation.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:
- must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
- must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
