We regret the death of Aras, the EU Delegation's elephant mascot, due to a disease. It shows that the message sent by our documentary film with actor Nicholas Saputra – entitled “Save Our Forest Giants” – is very acute. Through our ‘adoption’ of two young elephants from Leuser – Aras and Eropa – and through the documentary film, we want to support and raise the attention on the importance of preserving the biodiversity in Indonesia and in particular the existence of elephants.

Aras – 8 years old – was born on 29 June 2008 and lived at the Aras Napal Elephant Patrol Unit (EPU) in the Leuser Ecosystem in North Sumatera. Aras was one of the two young elephants adopted by the EU Delegation as mascots. The second elephant is named Eropa who is 1 year old (born on 1 September 2015) and lives at the Tangkahan Conservation Response Unit (CRU) in the Leuser Ecosystem. Filming of the documentary “Save Our Forest Giants” was done at CRU Tangkahan.
