European Ambassadors in Indonesia pledge #HeForShe
The EU Delegation to Indonesia – in cooperation with UN Women Indonesia – kicked-off on Friday (25/11) in Jakarta a series of events as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
To mark the start of the campaign and to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, EU Ambassador Vincent Guérend and ambassadors of EU Member States each made a pledge in support of the UN Women's #HeForShe campaign. "I support HeForShe because I want to leave a better world to the next generation," said EU Ambassador Guérend.
In addition to the #HeForShe pledge, the event also included the opening of a comic and cartoon exhibition on gender equality. The comic and cartoon drawings were the result of a national contest organised earlier by the EU Delegation and UN Women Indonesia entitled “Planet 50-50: Gender Equality Comic & Cartoon Competition”. The exhibition, which features the top 20 drawings, are exhibited for the duration of the 16 Days of Activism at The Warehouse, 5th floor, Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta.
Many activities will take place during this 16 Days of Activism at the same venue as the exhibition. These include talk shows, seminars and workshops, book launchings, film screenings and musical/ theatrical performances – all promoting gender equality and women empowerment. These various activities are presented by various institutions: the EU Delegation, UN Women Indonesia, embassies of EU Member States, the Government of Indonesia and NGO partners. Among others, the EU Delegation will be screening the EU-funded (IfS) film documentary: Six Days: Three women, three wars, one dream.
