The European Union Delegation to Liberia officially launched the re-edition of the book: 'Legends of Liberia' on Thursday, 8 June 2017. The book has been reproduced with illustrations by Liberia-born Italian Graphic Artist, Luca Bai Varaschini, with financial support from the European Union. The publication is a gem of folklore, arts and culture featuring oral stories from the tribes in the 15 counties of Liberia, stories traditionally passed from parents to children in unwritten forms.

A tale from each of the 15 indigenous groups has also been produced by the EU in audio story form.  A drawing competition for primary school children based on the "Legends of Liberia" was launched in May 2016 as a way to promote creative arts among Liberian children. The EU will bring storytelling from the book to schools in an event celebrating the Day of the African Child on 16th June at the St Mary Help of Christians Catholic School in New Matadi. Schoolchildren will set their imagination free drawing legends from the book.

The book was first produced by Australian explorer, Peter Pinney, after President William V.S. Tubman requested him to compile and put into written form the oral stories of Liberia in order to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country.

The European Union Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Tiina Intelmann, invited a cross-section of people from Government, academia, civil society, the Liberian culture and arts landscape and entertainment industry and the media to attend the launching ceremony.
