EU Ambassador Stefano A. Dejak and other heads of diplomatic missions today met with the leaders of the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to discuss plans for next month's re-run of the Presidential election.

The diplomats stressed their commitment to supporting Kenya's institutions, Constitution and laws. In particular they stand alongside the IEBC as it prepares to conduct the new election credibly and peacefully. 

The IEBC underlined its determination to make the changes needed to avoid repeating the problems that affected the August election: much greater transparency and accountability will be vital.

Everyone needs to respect the IEBC's independence, and allow it the space it needs to work effectively.
