Diplomatic corps

The Protocol Service facilitates high-level diplomatic contacts between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and third States, international organisations, and with other institutions. With respect to diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to the European Union, the Service handles the process of diplomatic accreditations, and serves as the entry-point for official diplomatic correspondence.

The Service assists during official visits hosted by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and by Senior Managers of the EEAS on her behalf. It supports the High Representative in the execution of her mandate as required.

The Protocol Service handles questions related to the application of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations and diplomatic law. We act as an advisory “Centre of Excellence” for the network of EU Delegations around the world, helping build a positive image of the Union on the global stage.
