Our Doctors Also Serving Our Partners: Strengthening the Fight Against Malaria Within the Security Forces

Fighting Malaria, Strengthening Security
On May 28, EUCAP Sahel Mali trained medical staff of the National Gendarmerie in Bamako to improve malaria diagnosis and care. This initiative bridges health and security, reinforcing community resilience particularly during the rainy season.

The session was held at the National Gendarmerie School and brought together 15 participants — 8 women and 7 men — mainly nurses, doctors, and laboratory technicians from the school’s Medical Center.

This initiative, led by EUCAP Sahel Mali’s Medical Unit, aimed to strengthen the skills of healthcare personnel in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of malaria.

To ensure the quality and relevance of the training content, the Mission called upon experts from the Applied Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Bamako, allowing the session to be tailored to the local context.

Beyond the technical focus, this training is part of a broader effort to strengthen national capacities in community health and security. It contributes to building concrete bridges between medical action and security operations, in service of both the well-being of security personnel and the protection of the population.

This session marks the beginning of a training cycle for the health personnel of the National Gendarmerie, aimed at reducing the incidence of infectious diseases among the security forces. Two more training days are scheduled for July, focusing on hepatitis and tuberculosis.
