European Union Training Mission in Somalia successfully completes first Special Forces training cycle

The program began in May 2025. For five demanding weeks, Somali Special Forces soldiers trained side by side with European instructors. They learned how to fight in cities, find and defuse dangerous explosives, give first aid on the battlefield, move safely as a unit, and plan complex missions. These lessons are not just about winning battles — they are about saving lives and protecting communities.
At the final exercise, EUTM-S Commander Brigadier General Marco Manzone praised the Somali soldiers for their determination and thanked his own instructors for their skill and patience. He reminded everyone that this is only one step in a long journey.
EUTM-S is not here for a short visit. It has been working with Somalia for many years and will continue to stand beside Somali forces for as long as it takes. The mission’s goal is simple but deeply important: help Somalia build an army that can protect its people and give future generations a chance to grow up in peace.
