Today, Ms Sandra Paesen, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. at the European Union (EU) Delegation to Uganda, and Mr Tony Glencross, Managing Director of Daily Monitor (DM),  launched the second issue of the EU funded comic book, Tesa and Luuka. 

Building on a partnership from the inagural production of the comic book in 2017, the European Union and Daily Monitor have partnered again to serialize the latest issue. Today a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to reproduce the comic book in newsprint in 8 parts in Daily Monitor's Rainbow magazine every Tuesday for the next 8 weeks (from 12^th June 2018 to 30^th July 2018). Tesa and Luuka is produced by Bayimba Productions Ltd.

This year Tesa and Luuka are travelling in the Rwenzori region and deal directly with very crucial social issues such as early marriage and child kidnap. "Tesa and Luuka was initiated by the EU last year in a bid to reach out the new Ugandan generations," said Ms Paesen, "Tesa and Luuka comic is in line with the Human Rights and Democracy Country Strategy for Uganda, designed and implemented by the EU and its Members States since 2016.  In particular, through the journey of these two siblings in different places in the country, the comic addresses, in a creative manner, the issue of protection of and uphold of children's rights" she added. "The ultimate aim of this year's issue is in fact to denounce child ritual sacrifice!"

On a more pleasant note, Tesa and Luuka also learn about typical Rwenzori area features such as female butchers and the ekisula rock. "Because at Daily Monitor we believe in promoting education and tourism in this beautiful country especially among the Ugandan population, we have partnered with the EU on this great venture so as to give a chance to the children to learn about their own country and their rights while reading," said Mr Glencross.  

The next edition of the comic will be covering the journey of Tesa and Luuka to Mbale.
