Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam represents EU interests and values in Indonesia?

We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6  months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, starting in March/April or October 2026, subject to budget availability:

 

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

Analysing and monitoring political domestic developments, incl. human rights, foreign policy, dealing with press, media and cultural activities;

Main tasks: 

  • Analysing and monitoring political domestic developments, incl. human rights, foreign policy, dealing with press, media and cultural activities;
  •  Contribute to the timely preparation of thematic or general briefing, speeches and reports in the Delegation's field  and competence
  • Attend and timely draft report on external conferences, seminars and meetings
  • Contribute to the preparation and development of the communications tools on media and social networks and to the operational organisations, cultural and public diplomacy activities as required to ensure the visibility of the EU Delegation's and partnership
  • Trainee might be requested to carry out and deliver research project by the end of the traineeship.

 

Traineeship in the Economic and Trade Section (TRADE):

Analysing and monitoring trade, investment and economic issues, not. in the context of the negotiations of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA))

Main tasks: 

  • Research and analyse issues related to economy, trade, and investment;
  • Prepare thematic or general briefings, speeches and reports on topics related to economy, trade and investment;
  • Participate in certain events and meetings and draft respective minutes and reports;
  • Contribute to regular communication tools used by the section e.g. annual brochure, weekly newsletter, materials for EU social media.

 

Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP):

Analysing and monitoring policies and programmes on sustainable development, and supporting the management of cooperation and partnership programmes with Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and the ASEAN.

Main tasks: 

  • Participation in dialogues on sustainable development and drafting of meeting reports.
  • Support to the production / editing and planning of communication materials on EU cooperation activities in Indonesia and ASEAN (e.g. project fiches, success stories, infographics), including materials for EU social media (captions, visuals, campaigns) and websites.
  • Support to the management of information tools managed by the cooperation section (e.g. projects database).
  • Support to horizontal tasks of the section (e.g. reporting, analysis of policy developments…).

 

Traineeship at the office of the Counsellor for Environment and Climate (ENV/CLI):

Monitoring and analysing key developments and implementing EU-Indonesia and EU-ASEAN cooperation activities, in the fields of environment and climate change (incl. deforestation, carbon pricing, energy, circular economy and other topics).

Main tasks: 

  • Monitor and analyse domestic policy developments in the field of environment, climate and energy.
  • Carry out research and contribute to the timely preparation of briefing, speeches and reports.
  • Participate in meetings on environment, climate and energy with government, civil society, academics and private sector, and draft meeting reports.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of public events.
  • Support the production of communication materials. 

 

Traineeship in the Administration Section (ADMIN):

Carry out and support with market research for supplies of services and goods for the EU Delegation and support with event management

Main tasks: 

  • Carry out market research for supplies of services and goods for the EU Delegation
  • Carry out a housing survey
  • Carry out a hospital survey
  • Establishing contacts with several hospitals to follow up with MoUs
  • Assistance with the Delegation inventory
  • Assistance with event management

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local health and security conditions, only applicants currently residing in Indonesia will be considered.
  • Candidates must have at least a BA degree and less than one year of professional experience after graduation by the signing date of the traineeship agreement (student jobs and internships are excluded)
  • Motivated candidates, interested to work in the international relations.
  • Experience and study and knowledge of Europe and the European Union or ASEAN an asset.
  • Written and oral fluency in English. Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia is a strong asset.

Please mention in the subject of your e-mail: Funded Traineeship - Your name-(Acronym of the Section Selected) Trainee 2026 (you may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation, however based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a traineeship in another section).

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee. 

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. 

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must already hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
